What Makes Us Different?

The Experiential Learning Leadership Institute is an organization dedicated to providing experiential educators with the tools and experiences to energize their respective programs. ELLI is hosted by Southern Utah University in collaboration with the National Society for Experiential Education.
At the Experiential Learning Leadership Institute conferences, Team ELLI works hard to find and provide the most innovative presentation styles, hands-on active learning experiences, and engaging excursions.
“PechaKucha absolutely blew my mind. To have such a breadth of competence shared in a single hour was truly invigorating."
Innovative Presentation Styles
The Annual ELLI Conference hosts a presentation format entitled “PechaKucha”. This is an upbeat format that keeps presenters on their toes as their twenty slides advance automatically every twenty seconds. PechaKucha presentations prevent individuals from becoming “long-winded” in their communications. This format is an entertaining way to learn about a wide variety of subjects or perspectives.

Active Learning
One of the most loved ELLI experiences is our hands-on active learning. This key component has attendees out of their seats and doing something outside of a normal conference structure. The Active Learning section of the conference changes every year so attendees have something new to look forward to each time. In previous years, this section has included activities centered around leadership and team building, soft skills/what employers are looking for, and place based learning.

“The most valuable part for me was the networking and actual hands-on activities to emphasize the effectiveness of experiential education.”

Excursions
ELLI Excursions are a great way to get out and experience more than you would at your average conference. Our excursions are always connected to the conference theme, and have a takeaway message and reflection time. Our excursions are a key element to what makes ELLI unique and stand out from other conferences.

“I loved hiking through Bryce and taking art lessons... It was fun to have the chance to slow down and explore, to really benefit from the experiential elements of the conference.”
“This is a 'different' kind of conference in that it is actually fun as well as informative. At times it felt like a vacation as well as a conference. Often, conferences can become boring and stale. This one had constant activity. Also, the attendees as a whole were a very friendly group. I found everyone incredibly supportive.”

“The conference was very well organized and the hosts were amazing. Extremely helpful, always patient, and clearly committed to helping attendees go through the conference.”
“This was the first conference where I wasn't bored or wanted to leave early. Given the large attendance at the final lunch, it is obvious that others felt the same way.”
